*** WHY DO WE LOVE OUR ERCOUPES, AND
WHY DO WE FLY THEM INSTEAD OF SOMETHING ELSE??? 1. It’s simple & fun to fly – it’s really fun to fly. 2. The visibility is fantastic, even for those of us who are short / petite (no claustrophobia!). 3. Flying open cockpit is primal! 4. Very easy to fly and safer than most - Stall resistant & spin proof, & SIMPLE fuel system! 5. Cross wind landing are a piece of cake, and forgiving & robust landing gear!!! 6. Very inexpensive airplane to buy & operate. 7. Appearance - no doubt, the Ercoupe is a really GOOD LOOKING airplane! 8. Classic / Nostalgic - You’re flying a plane that’s been flying for 58% of the entire history of powered flight. 9. Unique & special airplane design & type. The airplane itself has a very special place in aviation history. 10. A real 'FAA 'Certified airplane' and LSA eligible. 11. A well proven and reliable airframe and engine. 11. It is a FRIENDLY airplane, and often attracts attention & generates conversation. (you meet the nicest people...) 12. Two control and three control available. 13. One of the few planes that even handicapped pilots can fly without major modification! 14. Every Ercoupe comes with a smile.
Negatives; 1. Must check carefully for corrosion & AD compliance during pre-buy inspection. 2. Maintenance & repair requirements are higher than newer (LSA) aircraft. 3. Requires special approach and landing technique compared to most other light aircraft. 4. Low power means relatively slow climb & modest airspeeds. 5. May cause impulse for the pilot to try & use turn signal when taxiing - HA! |
