Miscellaneous From the Ercoupe Tech list; >>>Somehow, I stumbled on to the following web site and found pictures of me and my coupe taken recently when I was at Sun-n-Fun this year. I don't know who took the pictures but maybe others have pictures posted of their coupe taken by persons unknown. If you click on the home button for the website, you can type in your tail number and see of you have any "stealth" photos out there. Bart http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N3807H.html According to this site, we have over 1500 (1521) Ercoupes listed as active. 243 Alons and 156 Forneys. Add the 55 M10s and we've got 1975 airplanes listed. That comes close to the 2000 active aircraft mentioned in the AD publications. Hartmut I just saw that this year the Ercoupe joins the likes of the Jenny, Gee Bee racer, Spirit of St Louis, Staggerwing and others to be the 2008 and 12th ornament in the "Sky's the Limit" keepsakes collection. Hey folks, check
out the header photo on the Oshkosh 2008 home page (Ercoupe!).

>>Les Slifkin shared this (Thanks Les!). Here's something that may be of value for the Holidays as a great gift idea, or just for fun. Dolly Maufras (Dolly) does customized shirt embroidery, and is very nice and helpful. Dolly charges $25.00 for the digitizing and $12.00 to stitch any shirt. She will send a catalog or web site to choose the shirt. If you ask, you may be able to supply your own shirt. Dolly's web site is @ www.flyingmachineembroidery.com If you fly out of the country and back through an ADIZ, you can purchase a set of 12" N numbers from Sporty's Pilot shop for $35. They stick well but come off easy with a low heat gun or hair dryer and do NO damage to the paint. You do not need 12" N numbers going into Canada as there is NO ADIZ. http://www.sportys.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&did=19&product_id=218
Here's a link to a
web site that is very informative about radar and transponders. Ercoupe landing & take-off techniques, with emphasis on cross wind conditions. Thanks to Ed Burkhead for the link below. http://edburkhead.com/Ercoupe2/coupe_landings.htm For those in SoCal, Rialto now has some Wx reporting on the web. The reporting station is located on the field at Sheriff's Aviation but it does not report visibility or ceiling. It does however have real time wind and some other nice features. For those of us in SoCal this would be a great site to check and see if the Santa Ana winds are howling out of the Cajon Pass. http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KCARIALT3 Suggestion; if you're going to OSH or any long cross country where weather or winds could be a factor (most flights); Flight Watch on 122.0 is a GREAT resource! Just listen in and you are likely to get what you need however; if not, give them a call. The Flight Watch name goes with the center in your area Oakland center = Oakland Flight Watch. Note your nearest navaid (vor) and your position relative to it. When you call Flight Watch, be prepared to provide your type (Ercoupe), N #, position relative to a NAVAID or airport, & altitude. Remember, they each cover 1/2 a state or more, have transmitters and receivers all over, and really need to know where you are when you call (otherwise they have to guess which transmitter to use). Keep in mind that they could already be talking to someone so far away that you cannot hear the other conversation, so be patient. Once you have them and get what you need, it's always nice to pass along a Pilot Report (PIREP) to Flight Watch if there has been any significant weather for the next pilot. Be prepared to give them your aircraft type (Ercoupe = ERCO), departure point, destination, cruising altitude, and report any turbulence (light, moderate, or severe), the estimated in flight visibility in miles, cloud cover including cloud tops if able, outside air temperature, and (if you are able) an estimate of the winds aloft. The pilot behind you will appreciate it ! Information about conditions in the passes (Tejon / Gorman, Cajon, and Banning) is often very useful to other pilots, particularly in marginal weather or windy conditions.
Ed Burkhead shares
this; NTSB wants to REQUIRE 406MHz ELT purchase Kim Blackseth is cooperating with the X-Plane people to improve the Coupe simulation model. They need performance information so they can correctly simulate the power, glide and drag behavior. If anyone is looking for a chance to be a cool test pilot and would like to spend an hour or two collecting information, please forward it to Kim kimblackseth@mac.com I know few of you will have throttle position indications but if you list your engine horsepower, prop length and pitch and rpm, the power settings could be computed. Here's some really interesting history - be sure to browse through this site. Read about all the various airports that have passed into history, particularly those in CA. We've lost so many of the airports and much of the related history. Thanks very much to Ginette for sharing! Here's the web site; http://www.airfields-freeman.com/index.htm |
