(Shared courtesy of Linda Abrams) *** Congratulations to Frank Nelson @ TOA & Kim Blacksmith @ APC. Frank recently passed his Sport Pilot check ride and is going to be joining us from time to time at our Region 7 event events in his Ercoupe. Kim recently completed his first SOLO cross country in his specially equipped Ercoupe. This was especially challenging, since he's disabled and in a wheelchair. Check out the video of Kim's most recent cross country flight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syxxM487vzQ Again, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Frank & Kim ! *** Please check out this note from Couper Bob Faley, and particularly the link to his web site! "Dan, Thanks for sending this info. Although I am now disabled, I enjoy reading about the events and wish I had some way to attend. Incidentally I have recently published a new web site. Go to: www.lamecouper.com to see it. Wish I could join you sometime. Bob Faley Mission Viejo, CA" *** Linda Abrams shares this important bit from EAA Chapter 845 Newsletter; "Some of you may have heard about an informational meeting to be hosted by the operators of the SBD Tower (San Bernardino, former Norton AFB) on the evening of December 1st. This is being postponed until after the 1st of the year. It was felt that there would be more to discuss after the tower has been opened for a while…after which various procedures and recommendations could be developed based on some initial real world experience. Also it looks as if the Class D Airspace will not go into effect on December 1st as anticipated. We are encouraged to keep watching the NOTAMS. At least one factor in the schedule delay appears to be the inability to get an FAA official to the SBD Tower to certify the controllers and issue the required “Control Tower Operator Certificates”. Without these there can be no Class D Airspace. I’ll pass along updated information as it comes along. Pete Krok, EAA Chapter 845 Newsletter Editor" *** The latest EAA & AOPA information is provided, and both have a couple of interesting pieces. FAA funding & users fees are dead for 2009. However next year there is likely to be another battle, so we'll need to continue to be prepared to fight that battle! *** Do you REALLY know the story on the phasing out of the old 121.5 ELT's and the incoming 406 MHz ELT's??? The date is February 2009, so educate yourself now. More discussion is provided in the "News of Interest" section and here @ http://eaa.org/news/2008/2008-09-04_elt_info.asp *** If you have something to include in an upcoming newsletter, please have it to me no later than the last day of the month for inclusion in the next months newsletter (by 12/31 for the January newsletter, for example). I'll make an effort to include it for the group !!!!! *** Remember, if YOU have a unique or interesting experience you would like to share with the group please let the director or a wing leader know! (We really appreciate help writing all this stuff, and will take all the help we can get!). *** A BIG “Thank you!”, to the numerous contributors this month including; Ken Iwahashi (web master), Linda Abrams, Maynard Smith, Jim Grimes, Bob Ensley, Kim Blackseth, Frank Nelson, Bob Faley, etc. *** Please join and support our National Club organization (The Ercoupe Owner Club or EOC, based back in NC). They really help us all in many ways and are well worth the VERY modest annual fee ($30). To join up please either contact Carolyn Cardin @ coupecaper@aol.com OR (news flash!!!) the Ercoupe Owners Club is now accepting credit cards for memberships and renewals on their web site @ http://www.ercoupe.org/ & http://www.ercoupe.org/Pay%20Pal.htm *** My term as EOC Region 7 Director has ended, and an enthusiastic EOC Region 7 member is needed to assume the role of Director for the California wing of the Ercoupe Owners Club (Region 7)! Please let us know if you are interested in nomination for the 2009 / 2010 Region 7 Director. Please contact Skip Carden @ coupeclub@aol.com .
